Professional Development Program

One objective of the Education Program is to provide for the ongoing education of Parker Centre students and staff as well as industry personnel within the mining and minerals industry of Australia. The following information relates primarily to the education program for students but inevitably includes some courses of value to Centre staff.

Our students gain training in research techniques and procedures through undertaking the research projects associated with their university degree enrolment.

The Education Program offers additional courses and seminars to teach and enhance other skills that the students will require in order to be efficient and effective leaders within their chosen profession.

These professional enrichment activities cover numerous areas including: the acquisition of knowledge about their present research environment; the planning and execution of research; the communication of research results and ideas and the development of managerial skills that will allow them to operate more effectively within a future work environment or to take on managerial duties themselves.

Also, it is important that students gain a broad understanding of all facets of hydrometallurgy, in addition to specialist knowledge of their own research area. This will enhance their employability and their value to future employees. To this end, a three part lecture course has been developed and is being presented one part per year in three year cycles such that it can be taken by all PhD students, starting in any given year.
