Dr Kate Malatt

In 2000, Kate Malatt wrote:

"I am working as a metallurgist in Sardinia, Italy. Sardinia is a large island in the Mediterranean, south of Corsica. My husband, Garry Johnston, is the managing director of Gold Mines of Sardinia. The company is producing about 30 000 ounces per year of gold from a mine at Furtei in the south of the island.

Future plans include development of the sulfides at this site and development of a new underground mine in the north of the island. I am working on bacterial heap leaching processes for economic development of the sulfide resource. I have learnt to speak Italian and my child Amy who is now three speaks fluent Italian at kindergarten and English at home."
