The
Parker Centre Hydrometallurgy Conferences The Parker Centre Conferences are a series of unique conferences on key operations in hydrometallurgy. Organised and hosted by the Centre, attendance at these international conferences is by invitation. The world's top experts in the area that is the focus of the conference are invited to attend. The conferences are held at the Novotel Vines Resort in the Swan Valley near Perth, Western Australia. The emphasis is on discussion and sharing of experiences between the experts at the conference rather than presentations of papers. The conferences are unusual in that the attendees, the session topics and the discussions span a wide range of commodities where hydrometallurgy is important eg alumina, gold, nickel, copper, zinc, manganese dioxide and platinum. The invited delegates include senior representatives of mineral processing companies, industry suppliers and researchers. The conferences are truly international, with past attendees hailing from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, South Africa, the UK, Belgium, Poland, Chile, Brazil, India and South Korea. Each conference reviews the current state-of-the-art, discusses recent advances and identifes future challenges in a particular area of hydrometallurgy. The program is divided into six sessions, each with two to four speakers. Informal panel-led discussion follows the presentations in each session. A valuable summary of the main points arising from the discussions is presented at the close of the conference. The inaugural Parker Centre Hydrometallurgy Conference in October 1999 explored leaching science and technology. The next conference in October 2001 focused on purifying the leach solution, while the theme of the third conference, held in March 2004, was product recovery and impurity control. The May 2006 conference explored computer modelling of hydrometallurgical processes. The most recent conference, the 5th Parker Centre Hydrometallurgy Conference,
was held on 22-25 June 2008. The theme was "New Directions in Leaching - Science & Technology". This conference included sessions on knowing your feed materials, in situ leaching, mineral surface processes, bioleaching, approaches to nickel & copper leaching and future & novel approaches (Conference Program).
