The 2003 Program
August 2003
An Introduction to Practical
Statistics and Data Analysis
Two days: 4-5 August 2003.
The course was designed to answer the question, “How can I design
a statistically meaningful experiment?” It was specifically designed
for people needing to solve problems by collecting and analysing data
and was aimed at clarifying objectives and designing statistically significant
experiments. Many of the examples discussed during the course were drawn
specifically from extractive metallurgy, mining and minerals processing.
Presenter: Dr Aloke Phatak, CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences.
Where: Murdoch University.
Cost: $895 ($195 for students).
November 2003
Lecture Course on Hydrometallurgy
The hydrometallurgy course for students (and staff
who wish to attend) consists of:
- An Introduction on the Fundamentals of Hydrometallurgy (overview
of hydrometallurgy, thermodynamic principles and kinetic principles)
which is given each year. This introduction is attended by all Honours/4th
year students each year but only once by each PhD and MSc student.
- A three part Advanced Hydrometallurgy lecture course
presented by Parker Centre staff as one part (six hours) per year over
a rolling three year cycle for PhD and MSc students. The course covers
all the major facets of hydrometallurgy.
The course is divided into three general areas, namely extraction, purification
and recovery, with each area being covered within a specific year and
all areas covered within any given three year cycle. More details on
the three parts are provided below.
2003 - Part 3: Recovery
Electrowinning
One hour: 25 November 2003 - presented by Dr Nicholas Welham.
