Career History: |
Dr
Dave Robinson has a BSc (Hons) degree in chemistry from the University
of Sheffield in the UK (awarded in 1983) and a MSc from Wits University
in Johannesburg, South Africa (awarded in 1984). He subsequently worked
for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (the South
African equivalent of CSIRO) in Pretoria until 1987, whilst also doing
a part-time PhD in organometallic chemistry through the University
of South Africa. Following his PhD, he undertook postdoctoral research
in the US at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire related to platinum
group metals.
He returned to South Africa in 1989 to work for Johannesburg Consolidated
Investments (JCI) as a commissioning engineer. Dr Robinson then spent
17 years in various roles in the chemical and minerals industries
of South Africa, predominantly for Amplats (which evolved from the
platinum side of JCI), its successor Anglo Platinum and also for Anglo
Research. He was awarded a Master of Business Administration from
the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2003. He joined CSIRO
Minerals in April 2007, and took over from Dr Helen Watling as the
Parker Centre's Base Metals Market Leader in September 2007.

Interests: |
Dr
Robinson's expertise includes processing, separation and refining
of the platinum group metals and associated base metals; fundamental
metals speciation and applied analytical technology; technology transfer
and the application of fundamental knowledge to 'real-world' problems
and the relationship development and management within the technology
spectrum. His research interests include deriving value from improved
science; developing truly collaborative relationships between differing
groups in the technology development chain and understanding people,
relationships and the methods of encouraging best performance.
